Integrity

 My cousin Dave left early this morning, we said our goodbye last night. Safe travels I'll see you in Key West or St Somewhere soon.

 The Integrity is the vessel I am escorting from Juneau to Ketchikan then back to Hoonah. We have lots of stops along the way. Most of the time I'm going to be on Sea Duck or Katos and Captain Dan and Joe on the Integrity. I will be the safety boat and run film crew to the boat and back to the hotel. We are supposed to leave tomorrow morning but who knows we are already late. Our first stop is going to be Petersburg we are planning on three days to get there. I should be back around July 25th so almost a month.

 I said goodbye to my Mom and Sis tonight I see lots of hiking in their future. They have been hiking about 6 miles a day since they got here. I see lots of fresh Halibut in my future!

 I am a little sad leaving my Ambulance and Sis but also super excited about the adventure/S&$t show am about to embark on.

 I am really excited for the opportunity for my mom to explore Juneau and Sis will have a better time with her because I work all the time. And when I say explore Juneau and not Alaska that means there are no roads to Juneau, they can't go anywhere! They are stuck here.  Thanks for babysitting Mom.

Back to the Integrity.

I know it says Riptide but the vessel name is Integrity (it's a long story).

Crazy landside in Barlow Cove where we we filming. Glad I don't ever go on land! Hard to see the destruction from the picture. Massive trees demolished like toothpicks.



The electrical panel seems legit probably no fire hazard at all.


The galley. This is where we will cook and eat for the next month. Milk crates on the wall, diesel heater, propane tank on the floor, seems pretty legit what could go wrong?

 My Mom and cousin Dave came to Juneau so I took a day off. We cooked breakfast in the ambulance then hiked around Auk village. Sis decided to go swimming as she normally does. She did really well not to get her ears wet. Sis swimming or wading. After hiking we went to downtown Juneau. I have driven through but not walked around. I did my normal, bar hoping. You know me, I have to try the same beer at every bar!

51,000 feet

 I took 618 our lear 40 up to 51,000 feet. That is the service ceiling of the plane. It is challenging to get the plane up there. I am close to a stall and over speed at the same time. Once I get there my fuel burn is around 430lbs a side vs 600 a side in the lower 40's. Incredible fuel savings. 51000! I've only been up there 3 or 4 times! I didn't get a picture outside because it was night time. But you can see the curvature of the earth or the edge of the earth depending on what you believe in!

The New Water Well

 The original water well on Twin Oaks farm was hand dug by Frank Eaton (AKA pistol Pete) and William Knipe who was one of the founders of Perkins, and a high school kid name unknown. Legend has it they left the kid down in the well while they went for lunch!  The original well is still there but is no longer operational. It always worked when I was a kid. Anyways fast forward about a hundred years and I decided if they could hand dig a well then I could too.  The drilling process. Removing dirt. A large pile of dirt! The casing down in the ground. Pouring concrete. Building the well house. The pump. I used old tin so it would match the shop. I installed a sink because the shop doesn't have water. The original well about 50 feet from the new well. It's not quite finished but I think it is going to produce about 800 gallons a day.
