Ejido San Lucas

After some more dental work we left the cool weather of Guerrero Negro and went back to the East side of the Baja.  We will only be here about a week or so. I have to go back and have some more dental work done.  The drive. The moon to one side. Sunset on the other side. Our campsite. You can't get much closer to the water than that!

Ambulance Attic Fan

Image
With these 100+ temperatures we are having the ambulance gets hot during the day, especially since the inverter makes heat and the fridge/freezer makes heat that gets trapped inside when the truck is locked. So I bought a 12 volt radiator fan and I'm installing it on the small door where the O2 bottle used to go. It's going to be on a reverse polarity switch so it can suck air out or blow air in. The door is so small there is no way to rob anything from the truck. So while we are parked the door can be open with the fan running. It can suck hot air out or blow cool air in.  The O2 door closed. The O2 door opened with the new fan. When I get back to Oklahoma I'll build a proper shroud for it. It works for now.

Los Gaviones

Image
Today we went out to the lighthouse Los Gaviones. They think it was built in the 60's and retired in the 70's. There is a large wharf there that used to load salt onto the ships. It is no longer active now they truck the salt out. The drive out. We passed the salt farms. The large wharf. The old lighthouse. The dirt boat ramp. I don't think I'll take the ambulance down there. The Pacific is too cold for me anyways.

Windshield Surgery

Image
On my way to Alaska last year I got a chip in my windshield in the Northern Rockies from a semi truck. So once in Juneau I bought a repair kit and have been hauling it around ever since. (Why do today what you can put off for tomorrow!) Anyway I decided to repair it today.  Here is the chip. First you put the adhesive down Then the tool. Next suck the air out for 10 minutes then force air in for 20 minutes. It turned out really well. If I didn't show you where it was you wouldn't know.  It was a 10$ kit from the parts store really easy, just follow the directions.

Boating in Bahia de Los Angeles

Image
We took the boat out on Saturday July 22nd 2023. We went snorkeling, fishing. No wakeboarding today. We didn't catch any fish.  It's hard to see but there are two coyotes on the beach. This is where we anchored and went snorkeling.

Bahia de Los Angeles

Image
We have been in Bahia de Los Angeles for the last couple of days. We are parking right on the beach on the outside of town in an Airbnb type place that allows tent camping, and they let us park on the beach.  This was our campground on the way to Bahia de Los Angeles. We had a lightning/windstorm that night.  We passed by some giant cardon cactus trees on our drive.

Loading boats on the beach

Image
There are only three boat ramps in San Felipe that I can find and two of them are on the beach and high and dry at low tide. The locals just drive down the beach and load their boats anyways.  I'm not going to be driving the ambulance on the beach in the saltwater anytime soon. There is the boat ramp. You can see the truck and trailer on the beach.

San Felipe

Image
We are enjoying San Felipe. We have parked the ambulance and are riding the bikes around. We probably won't launch the boat here, but we are hanging out on the beach and swimming. Downtown San Felipe.

Quick update

Image
We are in San Felipe we got a RV spot at Victors RV park until Monday. We are riding the bikes around and swimming in the Sea of Cortez!! It feels good to be back in the salt water! The fishing boats in the Marina. Our new spot at least until Monday.

Helping Hand

I decided on this trip everytime I see someone broke down on the side of the road I'm going to pull over and help. 1. West of Waxahachie on day one before Hubbard lake. A guy had overheated. We gave him 4 gallons of water from our sink. The truck took two gallons  and he had two spare gallons in case it happened again. 2. East of San Antonio NM a truck towing a car on a trailer broke down. He had the necessary parts but no tools. So with the loan of my tool bag he was underway in no time. 3. East of Yuma on I-8 a lady with a small child blew out a tire and tore her rear fender up. She had a spare so I jacked up the car and put her spare on while Noora got the roll of flex seal tape from the ambulance and repaired her fender. She is going to have fun getting that tape off! 4. Between Mexicali and San Felipe (in the middle of nowhere) a pickup truck was broke down. After a language barrier struggle we learned that their transmission leaked all the fluid out. We didn't have any ...

Mexican Customs

Image
We made it through customs with no problems. They searched the entire ambulance. They didn't say anything about it being a retired ambulance.  It was only a two hour drive from Mexicali to San Felipe so we decided to go for it. We went through our first military check point. They looked in the ambulance to.

Probably our last night in the US.

We stopped in a little town west of Tucson called Toltec Eloy and went to a random bar called Tumbleweed Inn. It just happened to be Karaoke Tuesday!! I talked the Lady putting on the karaoke to sing Jackson with me. (Yes there is a video) but it is too long to put on the blog. You can use your imagination!!

We took the boat up to 7700 feet

Image
After we left Truth and Consequences we went through the Gila National forest and crossed the continental divide. Although we did not go boating we did take her up to 7700 feet.  The boat at the top of the sky. This was the highest lookout. I think we were over 8000, my phone isn't that accurate.

Truth and Consequences

Image
We went out of the way to go to the hot springs at Truth and Consequences NM. The hottest pool was around 107° the coolest pool was 102° the Rio Grande River was 69°.  I went back and forth probably three times. The first time in the Rio Grande I only went halfway. But the rest of the times I went all the way in. The hot pools overlooking the Rio Grande. Noora chickening out on the Rio Grande. I think she got her pinky toe wet. Me in the Rio Grande River. Brrrr. The hottest pool 107° The views.
